1. Overview

At Smaak Projects, your satisfaction is important to us. If you are not completely happy with your purchase, we want to help. This policy outlines your rights and our procedures for returns and refunds. This policy is aligned with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) of South Africa.

2. Return Window

You may return an eligible item within 7 calendar days of delivery. Returns requested after 7 days will not be accepted unless the item is defective or damaged (see Section 5 below).

3. Eligibility for Returns

To qualify for a return, your item must meet the following conditions:

  • Returned within 7 calendar days of the delivery date.
  • In its original, unused, and undamaged condition.
  • In the original packaging with all tags, labels, and accessories intact.
  • Accompanied by your proof of purchase (order confirmation or receipt).

4. Non-Returnable Items

The following items cannot be returned:

  • Items that have been used, washed, or altered.
  • Items returned without original packaging.
  • Sale or clearance items marked as final sale.
  • Custom or personalised orders made to your specifications.
  • Items returned after the 7-day window without prior written approval.

5. Defective or Damaged Items

If your item arrives damaged or defective, we sincerely apologise. You are entitled to the following remedies under the Consumer Protection Act:

  • A full replacement of the item at no additional cost.
  • A store credit equal to the value of the item.
    A full refund to your original payment method.

To report a defective or damaged item, please contact us within 7 days of delivery at info@smaakprojects.co.za with your order number and clear photographs of the damage. We will assess your claim and respond within 2 business days.

6. How to Initiate a Return

To start a return, follow these steps:

  • Email us at info@smaakprojects.co.za within 7 days of delivery.
  • Include your order number, the item(s) you wish to return, and the reason for the return.
  • We will respond within 2 business days with return instructions.
  • Once approved, securely repackage the item and send it to our return address as provided.

Please do not send items back without prior authorisation — unauthorised returns will not be accepted.

7. Return Shipping Costs

The customer is responsible for the cost of return shipping, unless the item is defective, damaged upon arrival, or the wrong item was sent. We recommend using a trackable shipping method, as we cannot be responsible for items lost in transit.

In cases where Smaak Projects is at fault (wrong item, damage, defect), we will arrange and cover the cost of the return courier.

8. Refund Processing

Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will notify you of the outcome within 2 business days. If approved, your refund will be processed as follows:

  • Original payment method: Refunds to card or EFT payments will be processed within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
  • Store credit: If you prefer store credit, it will be applied to your account within 1–2 business days.

Partial Refunds
A partial refund may be issued in cases where an item is returned in a condition that is not fully original, or where original packaging is missing. We will advise you of this before processing.

Original Shipping Fees
Original shipping fees are non-refundable, except in cases where the return is due to our error.

9. Exchanges

We currently do not offer direct exchanges. If you would like a different item, please return the original item for a refund (subject to this policy) and place a new order.

10. Your Consumer Rights

Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. If you believe your rights under the CPA have not been met, you may contact the National Consumer Commission or the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.
